Job Description:
First Presbyterian Church of Albany, NY seeks part-time Music Director for an active, traditional music program. Position open as of January 2009. Program includes adult, children's, and bell choirs. Director will conduct the adult choir, plan service music, supervise paid soloists and other choir directors, plan special performances, purchase music, and maintain the extensive music library. 10-16 hours per week depending on extent of responsibilities. We are looking for someone who:
- Appreciates that the goal of our music program is to support the life of faith and help encounter God, not to give performance. - Has a degree or qualifying experience in sacred choral music including choral conducting. - Specializes in traditional choral and instrumental music but is able to blend in the best of other genres. - Likes working as a team with pastors and lay leaders. - Will involve our youth more in the music of worship and give advice about incorporating music into Sunday school program.
